Final Product

Before I had decided that I had completely finished my front cover, I decided to upload it in facebook and get feedback.
This is the image I uploaded, here is what people commented...
'I actually thought it was a real magazine grace! The only thing I think you could improve is the way Jen's hand is covered by text'
'Have you tried it the other way round?'
I took what people commented in to account and make some changes.

I also put my unfinished contents page on to my facebook to gain feedback.

What I have Acheived

In creating my magazine I have expanded my Photoshop skills, and have also been able to look at the different aspects needed in this sort of media task. I used photoshop to edit each of my images, and developed both my front cover and contents page on photoshop. I made my double page spread on Microsoft Publisher.

Final Images

These images are the ones I have chosen to be on my front cover, contents or double page spread

Front cover Template

This is a very basic template of my magazine cover. I did this so I could picture the different aspects of the cover, and arrange them in some way.

Double Page Spread Research

Here are some articles from NME magazine...

After looking at these articles, I prefer it when the image is slightly seperate from the text, perhaps with one or two images built in to the text.

Contents Page Research

I looked at Q contents pages and NME contents page and found them to be quite detailed, however, both only containing one image, rather than having multiple images like in gossip magazines.

In the same way as the front cover, i found the Mojo contents page to be the one that attracted me most. I liked the simplicity and the different layout.

Front Cover Image

Based on my magazine research I took numouress photographs of my model that could potentially go on my front cover. I have an idea for my caption being 'Jen Keane shows her wild side', therefore the image needs to reflect this caption. I need to explore new poses which look proffesional, and relate to the feature topic.

Magazine Front Covers

There are particular features of a magazine front cover that are always present, for example, title, imagary, barcode and stories featured inside the magazine. I intend to make my magazine look genuine, including all of these features.
I looked at many different magazines featuring female artists, one below...

I looked at the imagary and the impression the magazine was trying to make on the reader. The image is quite seductive. For my magazine I wanted to create a different perspective, of potential readers appreciating the people on the cover, and thinking of them as 'real people' rather than celebrities.

My Model - Jen Keane

Although the model I used is'nt a singer, or doesn't play an instrument, I felt she had the right look to be able to give this impression, and would also be fitting in the music genre of my magazine. Therefore, helping what would be potential readers, to relate to the model in terms of age and perhaps style.

Prelim

After doing the Preliminary Task, I found that I most enjoyed doing magazines as apose to film.

I went on the website dafont.com to get different ideas for the style of my magazine title, I have chosen the title 'Volume', and wanted a font that slightly resembled the title. After looking at a selection of different music magazines, I know the look that would go best with the magazine style. Many Magazines, such as Q, have a simple title, however magazines like Kerrang!, have a title which has slightly more detail. My aim was to combine these two looks...
These were two of the styles I look at for my title. Out of the two, i prefered the first, simply because I didnt feel the second incorperated the idea of the magazine being about music. My favourite of the titles I looked at was this one...

I also looked at Mojo Magazine, as I really liked the simplicity and the alternative appearance, which i felt was different to that of other magazines. In my opinion, it is very easily recognised amongst other magazines.

The cover of NME magazine includes a lot more text than magzines such as Q. Their is just one image the cover, rather than the way some magazines include multiple images.

Q magazine front covers

Q magazine is the type of magazine that appeals most to me, and i tend to make my magazine in a similar way. The simplicity of the title and of the large single image on the cover reflects the target audience being older. The colours used are greys, black, red and white.

Vibe magazine front covers

Vibe magazine is a successful R&B and Hip Hop music magazine, targeted at the younger end of the market. The way the artists photo covers a section of the title reinforces the magazine being well known. The publication, as shown above, uses signature colours of red, black, white and grey, a continuous font is also used throughout the cover of the publication. The artists on the front reflect the audience being targeted, mainly those who are followers of hip of music.
