Final piece; Double page spread

Here is my second attempt for my final double page spread. i really like this design. I just think the needs to be abit more colour in it.

Here is my final piece for my double page. When looking at my first double page i had doubts if my text was readable over that large image of Lady Gaga's face. Also i had doubts that the image of Gaga didn't really look like me. So as you can see i got rid of all the Gaga images and the album cover image and replaced them all with an edited picture of me from my first ever photoshoot. I think this double page looks alot more professional than my first attempt. The image is sharp and starts out! Also it all blends in really well with the background of the image being white and the background of the text being white too. Overall I'm really happy with my double page spread it looks clean sharp and attractive to read.

Double page research and analysis

Final piece; Double page spread

Here is my first final double page spread i created. Here i used some pictures i have took myself from Lady Gaga's live tour in Liverpool Euro Arena. Also i have made a album cover and added it into this double page spread. Here is my first attempt of my final double page spread. As you can see it isn't as professional as i want it to look. I found it hard to read the text with it being over the image background and i found the page to cluttered.

Contents Research and analysis

Final piece; Contents

Here is my first attempt of my final contents. As you can see my contents is a double page. Not many magazines do this but i wanted mine to be different and original! i created my contents on photoshop and expored them together into publisher. The font i used mainly was Bluehighway D Type. But i have used a different font (a more script one) to make it look like a personal letter to the readers from the editor. i have stuck to three colours; black white and pink. This is to make it look more realistic and professional. As i looked at my double page contents more i decided i dont think it should be a double page because a contents should be really full. This one has lots of empty spaces on it.

Here is my final contents page. I'am really happy with my final piece. I think adding everything into one page has made the contents look more professional.

Final piece
This is first attempt for my final edit of my front page. Like any other front page to a magazine i have added stories, headings, colour co-ordination and the name of my magazine. I do think it could do with more stories to fill the page. Magazines that i have researvhed have more going on than my first attempt.

This is my final front cover. I'm really happy with what i have created. I think by just adding another story on the left hand side has made the page look more busy and more professional. Now i'm happy with my front page i now need to create my contents.

Bombilation
Now i know what the name of my magazine is and i have the edited background of my front cover i now have to add everything else you normally find on a front cover. Because my magazine is going to be more pop/top hits magazine (decided because of the look i portray in my background image) so I'm going to now research everything else there is to a front cover in these types of magazines.

what to call my magazine?
Research

What makes a good magazine name?
A: A magazine is an abstraction--essentially it's a bunch of pictures and words on a piece of paper. The name affects not only whether you buy it, but what it turns out to be once you get it. You can take the same magazine and call it Ribbons & Flowers or Outdoor Entertaining, and the name will create a largely different recollection of what it did for you. The name tells you what to expect to happen--and in that sense magazines are relatively poorly identified. They have names that are typically adjectival or abstract. There's no code to what kinds of names work, since selling a buff book is different from selling a general-interest book. But a name should be identifying a thing, or an attribute of a thing, not an idea or a philosophy.

(taken from findarticles.com)

After thinking long and hard about what to call my magazine, i decided from my research my magazine had to have a meaning so i researched meaning full words and one what really caught my eye was; bombilation, meaning; a sound that is like buzzing or humming. I think the name bombilation is wierd, querky and stands out. Therefore the name of my magazine is Bombilation.

Front page

This is an edited image for my front cover. I think this is a professional picture which would best suit a front page. To make this look as professional as i possably can i filled in all the background back with the creating a new layer, placing it on top of the backgroup and changing the opacity down to 35% then using the brush tool, i air brushed all the background. Then used this tool again on my skin so it looked more smoother, also i used it on my eyes to create black eye shadow and finally used it to make my eyes look more blue. Then i selected vibrance and highered it to make myself look more brown.

Photoshoot.. Best images

Developed ideas
When really looking at my images, it made me think more and more about my leavers do dress. My leavers do dress was my inspiration for my textile dress i used in my photo shoot. I think if i used my leavers do dress it would look more realistic for a celebratory artist to wear.
Here are some images of my leavers do dress i want to use for my shoot..

Editing
i chose my favourite photo from my shoot, and decided to edit it on photoshop. This is so it would look more professional because every image we see on front covers have all been edited to make them look better. there is my edited image..

i edited this image by getting ride of all the background and then adding more vibrancy into the picture and then air brushing my skin.

Front cover
After thinking long and hard about what i would like to photograph for my front cover, i decided to use a dress i made myself in my textiles AS class at the begining of the year. this dress was only for a taster for textiles so i havnt used it in any work for my textiles but i think it will be brilliant for my gaga 'look'.
Here is my photo shoot..

Lady Gaga

Here are some front covers Lady Gaga has appeared in. As you an see, both pictures of Gaga are quirky and quite different to any normal shoot other artists do.

This is one of my favouite shots of Lady Gaga. This shot has give me lots of thoughts and ideas into what i can capture in my shoot. When looking at all Gaga's shoots they are all set in a studio therefore this is what i will take from my research and contiue with in my shoot.

RESEARCH & PLANNING
Firstly i looked at professional front covers to magazines, when researching this one magazine stood out the most to me; NME. I really like the way out of NME's front covers, they have lots of information on them but not to much. They are bright and colourful, it has lots of different typography and imagery which is always important have in print advertising. These catch the readers eye and want them to find out more.
Here are some of my favourite NME front pages i have researched..

Looking at all these magazine covers you can see they all have a artist/band in the centre of the page. This is so they stand out and are the first thing you look at. I feel i need to focus on an artist to succseed in a good and professional front cover. The artist i'am going to focus on is Lady Gaga. This is because she is such a talented and original artist. Shes quirky and stands out from any other artist/band i know.

When given the decision of film, print or radio; i instantly knew i wanted to work with print.
i chose print because i work with photoshop in all my other AS subjects so i have alot of experience in this type of media form. Also i really enjoyed my print prelim to my other prelims.
This is my print prelim of my front cover and my content page..

As you can see, these prelims don't really look as professional as i would like them too. to improve my prelim i could of played around with more fonts to see what looked best and also to add abit more into my pages. From my prelims i have learnt i need to take a more professional photo shoot in order for my print to look professional. My prelim has also taught me that in order to succeed in my 'music magazine' i will have to carry out alot of research because if i had carried out more research in college magazines for my prelim, it would have been alot better!
