Further Research into Indie Magazines

INDIE MAGAZINES - NME

As with "Q" magazine, the title is always situated in the top left corner of the magazine. There is a providing information that appears like a sticker and contrasts with the grey background to stand out. Text is slanted down the side of the face of the cover star to provide the impression of speech and a quote is situated directly under the band name. The background is of a city scene or tower block and there is a small black band around the bottom of the magazine providing more information about the contents. There is an effect as if the photograph of the cover star has been ripped from a newspaper, adding to the casual style and feel of the magazine. There are three small photographs down the left side under the title with captions and quotes from popstars. Only four colours have been used; red, white, black and blue. The colour scheme of the main photograph ties in with the colours used on the rest of the cover.

On this cover there is a small piece of information in the top left corner as if the top has been ripped off, again adding to the feel of the magazine. The title and one of the main features take up a third of the cover with the main photograph in black and white. Small circles containing information have been placed beside the cover stars, yet there is no information down the sides of the image. There is a quote from the frontman underneath the main title.

One main star dominates the entire cover of this issue. There is information down the side that reveals the content and important information has been placed in a brightly coloured box in order to catch the reader's attention, such as "Plus!" and "Free!" Alliteration has also been used to catch the reader's attention.
